27 June & 4 July

Unfortunately our formal meetings for the past two Sundays were cancelled due to the COVID lockdown, nevertheless members, along with others, came during the week to pick, exercise and relax in the garden. On Sunday eight members were in the garden, socially distancing, and we welcomed Roy as a new member.

We picked some very nice ‘Detroit’ beetroot sown on 4th April. We also picked turnip tops, sugar snap peas, silverbeet, coriander, dill, cos lettuce, rocket, mizuna, mibuna, ruby streaks, golden streaks, mustard cabbage, parsley, chillies, curry leaves, bunching onions, rhubarb, radish, cumquats, lemons and two late-harvest tamarillos.

Beetroots and lemons sitting in a bed of land cress.

It is time to decide on the varieties of potatoes we wish to sow. A more difficult decision is which bed to plant in as all beds are currently full with vegetables. Make your suggestions for varieties at our meeting next Sunday.

We were sorry to hear during the week that loyal members Wendy & Wendy will be leaving us for sunny Queensland. They have moved to Brisbane where I’m sure they will soon be involved in tropical gardening.

The financial year is coming to an end so please renew your membership of $25 to keep the garden flourishing and creating a beautiful and restful space for the community. Bank details for deposit are in the attached email. We have had a very successful year despite the disruption of COVID. Members who joined since 1 January this year don’t have to pay again.
